Mrs. Leota Strickland

Leota Jean Strickland, 85, of Belton, MO, passed away March 23, 2010. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, March 26, 2010 at the Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe, Leawood, KS. Burial to follow at the Longview Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 25 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leota’s Memorial Art Fund. Leota was born June 25, 1924 in Bachelor, MO to Fred and Bertha (Livingston) Garr. Leota was one of 13 children, and an identical twin. She graduated from the University of Missouri – Columbia, where she met her dear husband Howard Strickland. Leota was a teacher in Platte City and Hickman Mills School Districts before retiring in 1982. Leota was preceded in death by her husband Howard. Survivors include her twin sister Leona Otey and brother Ervin “Pete” Garr, daughter Melinda Snyder and husband Chuck of Overland Park, son Mike Strickland and wife Rita of Belton, MO, and son Scott Strickland of Blue Springs, MO, five grandchildren; Crystal (Mike) Yeggy, Brittni Strickland, Calahan Strickland, Gunnar Strickland, Cody Snyder, and one great grandchild; Savannah Yeggy.
