Leroy A. Dykman, age 91, passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014 in Overland Park, KS.
A visitation followed by a memorial and graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at the Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS.
The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm followed by the memorial service at 2:00 PM. In place of flowers, the family request contributions to Cross-Lines Community Outreach or Metro Lutheran Ministries.
Leroy was born, the third of seven children to Claus J. and Catherine H. Dykman in Amoret, MO. Following his World War II army service, he married Pauline C. Laird, his cherished wife for the following 64 years. While living in northeast Johnson County, Leroy and Pauline’s greatest joy was the shared times spent raising their sons. In addition to his family activities, Leroy was a 35 year employee of Swift and Company serving in a variety of supervisory positions.
Leroy was also an active participant in his church, his local VFW chapter, the Overland Park Abdallah Shrine Temple, and the Overland Park Masonic Lodge. In addition, Leroy contributed countless volunteer hours serving Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cross-Lines Community Outreach, Metro Lutheran Ministry, as a Westwood City council member, as a youth sports coach, Boy Scout leader, church youth sponsor and numerous other volunteer activities.
Leroy is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pauline Dykman, and son, Mark Dykman. Survivors include his sons, Steve Dykman (Marjie), Westwood, KS; and Gary Dykman (Patty), Overland Park; KS; Grandsons Ben Dykman (Nicole), Overland Park, KS; and Bryan Dykman, Lawrence, KS; and granddaughters Molly Dykman, Kenosha, WI; and Sara Dykman, West Glacier, MT.
