Mr. Leslie Kelso

Leslie Clyde Kelso, 77, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away quietly at home on Thursday, October 25, 2007.

He was born on May 8, 1930, in Havana, Kansas, the son of the late Leslie Lee Kelso and Hazel Pearl Johnson. He graduated from Havana High School in May 1948 and began his college education at the University of Kansas. When the Korean War intervened, Clyde joined the U.S. Army, where he served in California and Arizona with the Army Corps of Engineers. Following his discharge, he went to work at the Bendix Corporation, where he worked for 34 years as a draftsman/designer. On June 13, 1954, Clyde married the love of his life, Marylyn Sue Dalton of Wichita, Kansas. They were blessed with four loving children, 11 grandchildren and countless friends who loved him. Following his retirement from Bendix, Clyde and Marylyn were able to indulge in their love of traveling, venturing to Alaska, Europe, Africa and South America. They spent several winters in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, which culminated in their living there full-time for 15 years. They recently moved back to the Kansas City area to be closer to family and friends. Clyde enjoyed golf, fishing, camping and singing throughout his life. He had a spirit of independence that lives on in his children and grandchildren.

Clyde is survived by his wife Marylyn of 53 years; daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Gary Bernhardt of Overland Park, Kan.; daughter Susan Brown of Houston, Texas; daughter and son-in- law Donna and John DeLeon of Shawnee, Kan.; son and daughter-in-law Michael and Robyn Kelso of Eudora, Kan.; brother Myron Kelso of Coffeyville, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; two nephews; one niece and countless friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made in memory of Clyde to the American Lung Association. Visitation will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, October 29, at D.W. Newcomers Johnson County Chapel, at 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. A 3 p.m. funeral service will immediately follow the visitation. Private graveside interment following cremation will take place at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
