Lila E. Skaer was born September 24, 1917 in Kansas and passed February 25, 2017 in Virginia at the age of 99.
Lila lived most of her life in Kansas but even the wide open plains of the Midwest couldn’t contain her spirit. She loved to travel both domestically and abroad, especially Mexico and Europe. She was fond of throwing dinner parties with eclectic collections of guests. Always the consummate hostess, she was always concerned that there be a “little something” for her guests to eat. She loved her sports: rooting for her hometown Royals and Chiefs.
She slowed down in her later years, and lived the last four years of her life in Northern Virginia where her granddaughter could better see after her care. While there she was treated to baseball, concerts (she loved Tony Bennett), and plays (including her favorite: Fiddler on the Roof). Annual visits to Rehoboth Beach were the highlight of her last years. Lila enjoyed life, good food and good friends; she adored dogs, was always delighted by babies and was looking forward to the wedding of her granddaughter.
Lila is survived by her granddaughter Samantha Star Straf and her soon to be husband Peter Picucci. She is preceded in passing by her husband William K. Skaer, her son Gerald R. Straf and her siblings.
A visitation for Lila will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 1-1:45PM at Memorial Events of Johnson County, Chapel & Memorial Gardens 11200 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park, KS 66210. Funeral services will be at 1:45 in the chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah cemetery 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131.
Guests are invited to attend a celebration of life dinner after the burial at 4:30PM at Jack Stack BBQ in Martin City-13441 Holmes Rd., Kansas City, MO 64145
