Funeral Services for Lillian P. Flaherty will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. Lillian P. Flaherty, age 87, of Olathe, KS, passed away on March 2, 2011. She was born on August 31, 1923, in Madrid, NE, the daughter of Katherine (Reifschneider) and Fred Reitz. Lillian was raised on a farm, the youngest of eleven children. In the early 1950s they moved to Kansas City and worked for the Boiler Makers until meeting her husband of 40 years, Lawrence Flaherty. Lillian was a stay-at-home mom until 1969 when she went to work for Mid America Insurance Co and in the early 1970s worked for the KU Alumni Assoc at KU Medical Center until Lawrence was transferred to Borger, TX, and they lived there until his death in 1996. Lillian enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter. She loved to travel and spend time at the lake. Survivors include her son, David Flaherty and his wife Janice; daughter Marsha Flaherty; grandchildren, Wescott Flaherty, Jessica Baker, Chris Flaherty, John Flaherty, Jacqueline Flaherty, Darwin Flaherty and great granddaughter, Elaine. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Flaherty; brothers, Chris, Fred, Henry, Peter, John and Harry; sisters, Katherine, Anna, Dorothy and Helen. (Arr.: D.W.
