Linda Simonsen

October 15, 1951 — June 24, 2015

Linda Kay Simonsen (Henningsen), 63, Lenexa, Kansas passed away June 24, 2015 at home.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 27, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, 11720 Nieman Rd, Overland Park, Kansas.  A gathering of family and friends will be from 4:30-8:00 PM, Friday, June 26, 2015, also at the church.  Cremation will take place and inurnment will follow at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the National Parkinson's Foundation.  For a full obituary and to leave fond memories and condolences for the family please visit www.johnsoncountychapel.com.
Linda was born on October 15, 1951 in Denison, Iowa to Henry and Marjorie Henningsen.  She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, IA.  Linda attended Goodrich Township Country School #4 and continued on to Zion Lutheran Parochial School through 8th grade, graduating then from Denison Community High School in 1969.  She went on to graduate from Spencer School of Business in Spencer, IA.
Following graduation Linda moved to the East Coast, working in Virginia and New York.  Upon her fiance's graduation from West Point, they were married in Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, IA on June 10, 1973.  During a 20-year military career, they lived in numerous states and overseas.
Daughter Jennifer and son JJ were born at Ft. Hood, Texas and moved the many places around the country with the family, before settling in Kansas.
While serving as an Army wife and mother, she also worked as an Executive Assistant at various schools at different military posts.  After coming to Kansas, Linda worked in the Blue Valley School District, assorted small businesses and finally as an Executive Assistant and Meeting Planner for Bayer Corporation.
As a child, Linda was involved in 4-H, showing Angus Purebred Steers, once winning Reserve Grand Champion.  She enjoyed the many farming activities and was known as "a champion egg gatherer".  Known as Tootie by the family, she enjoyed extended family picnics and gatherings.  Linda loved music all of her life and enjoyed participating in high school music groups and church choirs, wherever they lived.  As an Army wife, she was instrumental in organizing and participating in many Army wives groups.  She took great joy in doing crafts and was everyone's go-to person on the computer.
Linda founded the Ft. Leavenworth Pony Club so that her daughter and her friends could learn to properly ride and care for horses.  She also served as a Girl Scout Leader and was Co-President of the West Point Parents Club of Greater Kansas City.  She organized a military family support group at Christ Lutheran Church during the Middle East conflicts.
Linda's life was centered on three major areas; God, Family and Country.  She could always be counted on by her family and friends to lend a hand when in need.  She had an infectious smile that she willingly shared.
Linda was preceded in passing by her parents.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Jerry; children, Jennifer and her husband, Bill Woods of Lufkin, TX and JJ and his wife, Piper Simonsen of Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Bryce, Jackson, Brooke and Kayleigh; brother, Russ Henningsen of McCalla, AL; mother and father-in-law, Jack and Betty Simonsen of Branson, MO; sister-in-law, Nancy Simonsen; and nieces and nephews, Cassidy, Derek, Tracy, Bill and Jeff.
