Lindo was born on March 4, 1937 in Emporia, KS to Joe and Ramona (Fernandez) Lopez. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1957. While there, he played varsity football for 3 years. He attended Emporia State University where he also played football for 3 years. He also met the love of his life Kay Mahan and they recently celebrated 53 years of marriage. They lived in Emporia after their marriage and Lindo continued going to school and also worked 40 hours a week at Fanestil's Packing Co. They moved to the Kansas City area in 1961.
He worked for Faultless Starch-Bon Ami Co. for 37 years retiring in 1998. For the past several years, Lindo had done lead-ins for D.W. Newcomer's Sons Cemeteries in Johnson County, a job that he enjoyed very much. For several years, while he was at Faultless, he was a loaned executive during the United Campaign. He worked very hard to reach his goal and always managed to do it. He loved sports and coached several little league teams over the years. He was the coach-manager of the Mission Merchants Baseball team and the Maple Hill Auto Parts team. He also coached a little league football team and a girls basketball team. He loved playing golf with his church buddies and was a member of the Tomahawk Seniors Golf League. He thought it was always a good day, if he was on the golf course. Lindo was a member of the Shawnee Optimist Club and of Prairie Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon and also had served on the Board of Missions. A highlight of his life was a mission trip to Costa Rica that he took with his granddaughter Jennifer. He loved watching his children and grandchildren in all their activities over the years and never missed a sporting event or a dance competition they were involved in, if he could help it. Lindo and Kay enjoyed their lake house and spent many wonderful vacations and weekends there over the last 30 years. They also loved to travel and had been on many cruises, the most recent a dream cruise to the Mediterranean for 16 days, in June of this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John Lopez and Arnold Lopez.
Survivors include his wife, Kay of the home; daughter, Donna Sosna and her husband, Dennis of Prairie Village, KS; son, Brian Lopez and his wife, Debbie of Overland Park, KS; two grandchildren, Jennifer Kay Sosna and her fiancée, Jesse Garcia of Lenexa, KS and David Patrick Sosna of the home; two sisters, Rita Ortega and husband, Tony of Emporia, KS; and Teri Cisneros and husband, Felix of Shawnee, KS; two brothers, Daniel Lopez and wife, Marsha of Emporia, KS and Raymond Lopez and wife, Karen of Chandler, AZ; and many nieces and nephews. Lindo had a unique outlook on life and always had a one-liner to respond to any occasion. His sense of humor was always present. Even when he received his devastating diagnosis 10 weeks ago he said, "Guess I better go sky diving". We will miss his humor, his smile, his love for all of us and his special way of dealing with any adversity. He was truly a great guy!
