Lloyd R. Claiborne, Sr., 75, Overland Park, passed away October 6, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, October 10, 2011 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas. A visitation will begin at 1PM, also in the chapel.
Lloyd, or Clay as he was known to his friends was born in Newport News, Virginia on February 15, 1936 to John and Alma Claiborne. Lloyd was a quiet man who had a smile that warmed all hearts. He was the first African American Regional Director of the Food and Drug Administration in the County for which he was responsible for areas in the Midwest, East, West, and Southwest. After retirement he worked at Hyvee for many years in the bakery. Lloyd's passions in life were his work, reading, watching TV, listening to Jazz with his wife, and cooking.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife, Dorma J. Claiborne.
Survivors include his children, Renee Claiborne, Cheryll McKimm, Denise Claiborne, and Lloyd R. Claiborne II; son-in-law, Bill McKimm; and grandchildren, Ashley Smith, Josephine Clarke, Christopher Clarke, and Khari Banks.
