(MICKEY) After a valiant fight with cancer, Mickey Griffith, 71, died in the early morning hours of September 11, 2007.
He was the loving husband of Rosemarie (Roe), his wife of 49 years, devoted father of Laurie Griffith, of New York City, Michael James Griffith, and his wife Ann, Steven Lloyd Griffith and his wife Michelle, adoring and doting "Popie" of Katherine, Lucy and Peter Lloyd, and Allyson and Claire, all of Leawood. He is survived by his brother, Jeffery Griffith and his wife Deborah, of Burlingame, Calif., and his nephew, Arthur Griffith, of San Francisco, Calif. Also surviving are many loving and close relatives in the San Francisco Bay area.
Mickey was born in San Francisco, Calif., to Lloyd Almon and Mary Gillespie Griffith on February 17, 1936. He and his family moved to Burlingame, Calif., during his teen years. He attended, UC, Berkeley and was a graduate of The College of San Mateo. As a young man he attained the rank of Eagle Scout. Mickey loved aviation and earned his private pilot's license at a very early age. He loved boating on the Russian River and San Francisco Bay, and solely built his first boat. He enjoyed water skiing, snow skiing in the Sierras, and vacationing at Lake Tahoe. He moved to Leawood, Kan., in 1965, where he was employed in the plastics division of Spencer Chemical; after which he co-owned Plastics Enterprises in Independence. Later, he was President of Sunset Plastic Products for many years. In 1985, he founded the LMS Company and worked in that business with his two sons until his death. Over the years he was a member of The Society of Plastics Engineers, The Society of Plastics Industry, The Kansas City Club, Leawood Country Club, the BFLC Investment Club (Bunch For Lunch Club). Mickey was a loyal friend who exemplified "the golden rule." He found great satisfaction in helping others and could be turned to no matter what time of day or night. First and foremost, Mickey was devoted to his family. He was our guiding light with a constant attitude which emphasized the glass is not only halffull, but at least three-fourths full. We will miss him dearly.
