Lloyd H. Smith, 91, passed away peacefully September 13, 2017 at the Forum of Overland Park, an assisted living community. Lloyd was born in Kansas City, MO., and lived in Prairie Village, KS most of his adult life
Lloyd was a Navy Veteran serving four years during WWII. Upon his return to Kansas City he went to work as a mechanic for TWA in 1946, and retired in 1983 as a Captain flying 727 jet aircraft.
Lloyd was an active member of the Prairie Baptist Church, singing in the choir for several years, a member of the TWA Retired Pilots Association and the TWA Alumni Association.
He was an avid fisherman, taking several fishing vacations and spending many great times with friends and family at their home on the Lake of the Ozarks. Whenever possible he would attend games and events of his children, grandchildren, and later on, great grandchildren. Lloyd and Maxine traveled across the country and around the world, with scrapbooks to prove it.
He was preceded in death by his father, William H. Smith and mother Annabelle McMahon Smith of Kansas City. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Maxine Smith; sister Dolores Olson, Murietta, CA.; daughter Patricia Sabath (Rich), Lenexa, KS.; son John H. Smith (Peggy) Olathe, KS.; grandsons: Rick Sabath (Jennifer) Olathe, KS. Michael Sabath (Heather) St. Louis, MO.; Jamie Smith, South Bend, IN., and seven great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 2-4p.m. at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens 11200 Metcalf Ave. Overland Park, Ks. 66210.
