Lois Jean Athon, 86, Prairie Village, Kansas passed away Monday, August 30, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, September 2, 2010 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kansas. Visitation will begin an hour prior to service times also in the chapel. Entombment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hillcrest Covenant Church, Benevolence Fund , 8801 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, Kansas. Lois was born April 24, 1924 in Pratt, Kansas to Virgil and Twila McFerrin. She graduated from College of Emporia, was the organist for Hillcrest Covenant Church, Roeland Park United Methodist Church, and First Covenant Church. She was also a member of The American Guild of Organists.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Bruce McFerrin and Mary Beth; and daughter, Marilyn Athon.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Dr. Merrill Athon; sons, John, Mark, Paul, and Phillip; six grandchildren; and sister, Maxine Haggerty.
