Loren S. Brooks, Jr., 86, passed to new life on Monday, January 13, 2014, at Lee's Summit Medical Center.
He was born on August 6, 1927, in Kansas City and grew up in Girard, KS, where he graduated in 1944 from Girard High School. He enlisted in the U. S. Navy in 1945 and served until 1948, touring the Mediterranean earning the rank of 2nd Class Fire Control Tech. After leaving the Navy, he returned to Kansas where he attended Ottawa University, earning a BS degree in 1951. In 1953, he married Dorothy Dallam. They moved to Indianapolis where he began a life-long career with General Motors in the Allison Jet Engine Division. Upon retirement he and Dorothy moved back to the Kansas City area where he lived until his passing.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents Loren, Sr. and Thelma Brooks; wife, Dorothy; sister, Mary Lou White; and brother, Charles M. Brooks.
He leaves behind nephews, Bob (Candy) White, Tim White, Ron (Lynne) Brooks, John Brooks and Charles (Paula) Brooks; nieces, Jenifer (Greg) Perteet and Pamela Brooks; and several great nieces and nephews and their children.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 18, 2014, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons – Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. Interment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in Loren's name.
