L. Lorence Gregg, 89, of Lenexa, Kan., passed away May 25, 2009. He was born in Kansas City in 1919 and would have celebrated his 90th birthday June 3. He was a graduate of Westport High School and Baker University, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity.
Lorence served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. Returning from war, he was a Certified Public Accountant in private practice in the Kansas City area. With his first wife, Carolee Armsby Gregg, they founded Lee’s Secretarial Service in Mission in 1956. He served on the Board of Directors for the Association of Telemessaging Services International and also as the president of the Southwestern Association of Telephone Answering Services in the 1970s. In 1986 he retired and sold the business.
Lorence was a widower with five children ages 6 to 20 when he met Jeanne Hubbell, a mother of three, at a Parents Without Partners meeting. They married and combined households including all eight children. They celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2007 at the Lake of the Ozarks with their extended family.
Lorence loved the Lake of the Ozarks, jazz and blues, telling stories about his youth in Kansas City and drinking Manhattans while floating in the pool. He loved Jeanne, their blended family and especially their 19 grandchildren and great grandchildren. That’s a lot of basketball games and school concerts and he tried to attend them all.
Lorence leaves behind his wife of 41 years, Jeanne Gregg; his children, Douglas Gregg, Spencer Gregg, Lorie Estelle and Karen Dees; his stepchildren, Gail Hubbell, Becky Hubbell and Jim Hubbell; his daughter- and sons-in-law Penny Gregg, David Dees, Harold Smith and Anton Brammer; his grandchildren, Jessica Clark, Jon Clark, Veronica Clark, Rachel Clark, Banti Clark, Matthew Estelle, Aaron Estelle, Carolee Estelle, Taylor Gregg, C. Spencer Gregg, Sarah Dees, Ali Dees, Troy Hubbell, Noah Hubbell, Emma Brammer and Lucia Brammer; and great grandsons Anthony Estelle, Joey Estelle and Quinton Estelle. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Gregg Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, May 29, 2009 at St. Andrew Christian Church, 13890 W. 127th St., Olathe 66062. Visitation will begin an hour prior to the service at the church.
