Loretta H. Phillips, age 91, died July 17, 2015 in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She was born March 21, 1924 in Emporia, Kansas, the only child of William D. and Laura Largent Horn. Loretta graduated from Emporia High School and briefly taught school in Neosho Falls, Kansas before working at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant near Desoto, Kansas. She married Ralph M. Phillips January 30, 1945 in Emporia, and after his discharge from the Navy, lived in Lawrence, Kansas until he completed his college degree. They later lived in Borger, Texas, Overland Park Kansas, Prairie Village Kansas, and Marionville, Missouri, before moving to Lee's Summit. She pursued many artistic hobbies throughout her life including sewing, quilting, jewelry making, ceramics, and making miniature furniture. She was also an accomplished pianist and instructor. After Ralph's retirement they enjoyed numerous Caribbean cruises and traveled by RV throughout the country. They both loved the mountains of Colorado and spent many summers there escaping the heat of Kansas City. Loretta was predeceased by Ralph, her husband of 70 years, and is survived by three children, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Burial will be at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, Kansas.
