Louetta Collins

February 25, 1932 — June 2, 2024

Overland Park, KS

Louetta (Lou) Collins, 92, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away peacefully in the arms of her loving husband on June 2, 2024. Louetta was born to William and Mae Weidhuner in Petersburg, IL on February 25, 1932. On July 8, 1951 she married her high school sweetheart, Robert Collins.

Lou worked for many years as a keypunch operator, the precursor to modern day computer data entry, followed by owning and operating a daycare, all while caring for her family. After retiring she enjoyed spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren, her various church activities, including Deborah Circle, Reception committee, making Braille bibles, to name a few. Along with her husband Bob she was a Founding Ambassador to Lutheran High School, served in Stephen Ministries, and served as wedding coordinator for many happy brides and grooms over the years. Outside of church she was a member of the Vol Stars at Johnson County Community College where she and Bob were event captains for events in Yardley Hall.

Lou will be missed not only by her family but also numerous friends and neighbors who will no longer be able to enjoy her famous deviled eggs, chocolate chip cookies and wrapped dill pickles that she frequently provided to us all! The recipe we lovingly referred to as her “ever changing chocolate chip cookies” will change no more.

Lou was preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Weidhuner, sisters LaVerne Markert and Loretta Meyer, and son Kyle Collins. She is survived by her husband of nearly 73 years, Bob, daughter Sheila and husband Don Wehrkamp, and daughter-in-law Lori Collins. She will also be lovingly remembered by grandchildren Krista, Tyler, Kelsi and Haley; great-grandchildren Ashley, Savana, Noah, Jacob, Elias, Paxton; and great-great-grandchildren Rion and Tripp.

A Memorial Service will be held June 22, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, 9101 Lamar Ave. in Overland Park followed by lunch and fellowship.  In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to Bethany or to a charity of your choice.
