Chief Louis E. LeManske, Ret., Prairie Village, KS died Saturday, December 5, 2009 at his home. A celebration of life will be 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2009 at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service. Private family inurnment will follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 920 Main, Kansas City, MO 64105 or the Sunflower Health Care Hospice, 7398 W. 162nd Terrace, Stilwell, KS 66085.
Louis was born November 27, 1935 in his home in Muncie, KS now Kansas City, KS to Louis and Lillie (Bilyeu) LeManske. He attained rank of Eagle Scout Boy Scout s of America and was a 1953 graduate of Turner High School. He entered the U.S. Army in 1954 and married Judy McTaggart in 1956 at Stony Point Christian Church, Kansas City, KS where they also celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, he was stationed in Germany and at Fort Riley, KS he was discharged July 1958 with the rank of Sgt. He was hired by the Prairie Village Police Department becoming an officer May 1 1958 retiring from the force after 32 ½ years on December 1, 1990 as the Chief of Police for the City of Prairie Village, KS, then worked for Bruce Smith Drug Store in Prairie Village for 15+ years. He loved the family lake house at the Lake of the Ozarks and was able to take his last pontoon boat ride with his grandchildren on a glorious day 3 weeks before his death , he dearly loved his grandchildren and was able to celebrate his birthday the day after Thanksgiving with his family.
Louis was preceded in death by parents, Louis and Lillie LeManske, a grandson Tim Flaherty and a brother-in-law Troy Whitby. Survivors include his wife Judith (McTaggart) LeManske, of the home. Sons Derek (Jill) LeManske, Overland Park, KS, Louis Dean (Michelle) LeManske, Littleton, CO; daughters, Gina (Jim) Flaherty, Overland Park, KS, Marca (Chris) Reese, Overland Park, KS. Twelve grandchildren Jamie (Tony) Waldron, Basehor, KS, Kelly Flaherty and Andrew Louis Flaherty , Overland Park, KS; Louis Coleton Reese and Cailey Reese, Overland Park, KS, Thomas LeManske and Trevor Lemanske, Overland Park, KS, Collette LeManske and Dante LeManske, Littleton, CO, Eric (Jennifer) Reese and Tyson (Jamie) Reese, Smithville, MO and Melissa (Jared) Myers, NKC MO, four great grandchildren, Caden, Avery, Brody, Jade. Mother-in-law Geneva McTaggart, Baldwin City, KS, sister, Florence Whitby, Kansas City, KS, nephew, Rick Whitby, Kansas City, KS, 5 other nephews and 3 nieces, brothers-in-law, Bill (Shannon) McTaggart, Lawrence, KS, John McTaggart, Edwardsville, KS, sister-in-law, Linda (Terry) Walters, Smithville, MO, many, many friends, cousins and extended relatives.
The family would like to thank the nurse’s of Sunflower Hospice for the loving care they gave Louis this past year and Chaplin Martin Bush for his constant devotion for the work of the Lord and loving friendship and attention to our spiritual needs, also the Prairie Village Police Department family for their services honoring his legacy.
