Louis Herbert "Herb" Hanson, 85, of Lenexa, passed away Wednesday, October 15th, 2008.
Visitation will be at DW Newcomer?s Sons, Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. Sunday, October 19, from 4-6 PM, 11200 Metcalf Ave. Funeral services will be Monday, October 20, 10 AM at DW Newcomer?s Sons, with burial to follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Herb was born Jan.26, 1923, at his Grandmother?s house in Wellsville, KS to Harry Ray Hanson and Helena Marie (Johnson) Hanson. He graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School in 1940.
He joined the US Army Air Corp and served in WWII from 1942 to 1945
On Sept. 16, 1945 he married Virginia LaVaughn Fulwiler of Riverton, KS, at the Lenexa United Methodist Church. She survives of the home.
Herb and LaVaughn lived in Fairway, KS from 1945 to 1977, and Lenexa, KS from 1977 to 2008.
Herb was a traffic signal maintenance man for Kansas City Power & Light Co for 39 years, retiring in 1985.
He was a longtime member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 1464.
He was a member of Old Mission United Methodist Church in Fairway and Lenexa United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the Overland Park Masonic Lodge. Herb and LaVaughn enjoyed square dancing in the Kansas City and Ottawa areas with the Top Railers Square Dance Club for more than 40 years.
Survivors also include a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Joanne Hanson of Silverthorne, Co; son-in-law Alfred Rasho of Chicago, IL; a brother and sister-in-law, Wilbur & Jean Hanson of Leawood, KS; a grandson and his wife Geoff & Kim Hanson of Ottawa, Ks; two granddaughters, Meredith Hanson of Idaho Springs, Co and Eva Rasho of Washington, D.C., and four great-grandchildren, Allyssa & Zackary Hanson of Ottawa, Ks and Tracy & Jessica Bates of Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Howard Ray Hanson, a sister Harriet Irene Hanson and a daughter Carol Virginia Hanson.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in memory of his daughter Carol Hanson.
