Reverend Louis Turk

March 24, 1921 — August 14, 2016

Rev. Louis R. Turk, 95, of Kansas City, KS passed away on August 14, 2016 and began everlasting life in heaven with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.   Visitation will be from 10-12 PM Saturday with a funeral service at 12:00 PM at Trinity Baptist Church, 8820 W. 49th Street, Merriam, KS.  Burial will follow at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens, 23215 W. 75th St., Shawnee.  Louis was born march 24, 1921 in Warren, Arkansas to John Anton Turk and Julia (Kovac) Turk.  He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Naomi Turk; children, Louis A. Turk and wife Cheryle living in Indonesia, Daniel Turk and wife Elise of Garland, TX, Nelda Dale and husband Allen of Shawnee, KS; 15 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by two grandchildren, Zuriel Turk and Stephanie Dale Miller.  Louis served in the 4th Division of the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII where he participated in the major battles of the Pacific Campaign.  He was wounded on Iwo Jima on the 16th day of battle for which he received one of his two purple hearts.  Louis and Naomi married on July 19, 1945.  Louis accepted Christ as his Savior on Easter Sunday, 1948 and began a life of Christian service.  He was ordained into the ministry in 1951 and became the first pastor of Haven Baptist church in Kansas City, KS.  He pastored other churches in the area including Lighthouse Baptist Church of Kansas City, KS and Clearview Baptist Church of DeSoto, KS. He pastored Trinity Baptist Church in Merriam, KS for 32 years.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to be made to the Trinity Baptist Church, 8820 W. 49th Street, Merriam, KS 66203 as they continue to spread the Gospel of Christ.  Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.johnsoncountychapel.com.
