Loyd Dykman

Loyd William Dykman, age 83, of Overland Park, KS passed away suddenly on 12/27/2011 at his home. Loyd was born into a family of eight children on May 29, 1928, to parents Katherine and Claus Dykman. He grew up on a farm near Amoret, MO.
He served in the U.S. Army for 4 years, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. On August 15, 1952, he married Dorothy Obermeyer at Christ Lutheran Church, Kansas City, MO. They were blessed with three children; Janice Louise, Catherine Ann and Timothy Loyd. He was a longtime resident of Overland Park, and was employed as a Vice President by Norbank for 26 years.
A life-time Lutheran whose faith was nurtured by his parents and church community, Loyd loved Jesus Christ and lived that out through a life of service. Loyd was a founding member of Atonement Lutheran Church, where he served as Congregational President, Chair of Evangelism, and numerous other positions. Loyd helped establish Metro Lutheran Ministry, an agency to care for the poor of Kansas City, serving on the Board of Directors for 12 years, 9 of which were spent as Board President. Loyd also served on the boards of Andrews Way and The Foundation Workshop, and was a member of the North Kansas City Rotary Club.
Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife Dorothy, and their children Jan and husband Mike Dieckhaus, Cathy Dykman-Cunard, and Tim and wife Carol Dykman. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his surviving siblings Nadine Melgren, Leroy, Wilbur, Clifford, and Edward Dykman, their spouses, in-laws, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held on Sunday, January 1, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, and the memorial service will begin at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 2, both at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Metro Lutheran Ministry and Atonement Lutheran Church.
