Luciano L. Medel, 98, of Overland Park, KS passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at his home from old age.
Visitation will be from 6-8pm Monday, October 20nd at D. W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, October 21st at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 8311 W. 93rd St. Overland Park, KS. Burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, 83rd and Quivira, Lenexa, KS.
Family requests memorial contributions be made to Care Alternatives Hospice, 1420 N.W. Vivion Rd., Kansas City, MO 64118, in lieu of flowers.
Mr. Medel was born January 7, 1910 in the Philippines. He went to high school in Iloilo and college in Manila where he graduated as a Marine Engineer. He became Chief Engineer of an intercontinental commercial ship and also a member of the Philippine Coast Guard. He was involved with the Filipino Association of Great Kansas City and Senior Council of the Filipino Association where he was treasurer for 4 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Luz P. Medel and daughter, Corazon Medel. He is survived by his children, Drs. Ric and Nenita Labayen, Arcelina and Eulogio Vitug and Thelma and the late Roger Campbell; grandchildren, Gerry Labayen, CC and Karl Kroen, Dr. Cynthia Labayen, Vickie and Steve Calderon, Samson and Karen Delgado, Kim and Matt Sokol, Jene Knox, Ferdinand Menguillo, Larry Cabe, Charlene Perez and Rosemarie Perez; great grandchildren, Kameron, Catherine, Shelby, Cole, Sean, Ryland, Malea, Jasmine and Cody; other family members, Lydia and Ray Jovenal, Alan and Imelda Labayen, Consuelo and Larry Knox, Francisco and Soledad Menguillo and the Jopenda, Amara, Palma, Lambrecht and Sugapong families.
