Lucille F. Jerome, 89, died on Thursday, January 24, 2008, at St. Luke's South Hospital.

Lucille was born July 23, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan., to Price G. and Ethel M. Combs. Lucille had one sister, Dorothy Combs Howard, who preceded her in death. Lucille with her family was a member of the Old Immanuel Baptist Church of Kansas City, Kan., where she sang in the choir and enjoyed youth activities. Lucille graduated from Wyandotte High School Class of 1935 and Kansas City Business College. Lucille married in her late 20's and moved to Wichita, Kan., and later to Madison, Wis. When this marriage failed, she returned to Kansas City, Kan. During the ensuing years Lucille worked as head cashier at KU Medical Center. On Nov. 2, 1974, she married Charles A. (Chuck) Jerome, Jr. Lucille joined membership at Village Church in 1975 and became active as a Women's Circle leader and volunteer and was also a member of Ivy Leaf Chapter #75 of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife and she leaves a void that can never be filled. Her hobbies included sewing, gourmet cooking, and bridge.

She is survived by her husband, Charles A. Jerome, Jr., of the home; two nieces, Joanne L. Howard and Cynthia L. Howard, both of Kansas City, Kan.; and two cousins, DeAnn Smith of Shawnee, Kan., and Sondra L. Scofield of Glen Ellen, Calif.

A temporary inurnment will occur at The Village Church columbarium. Final burial rites will be held at the Jerome family memorial lot in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Omaha, Neb. A memorial service will celebrate Lucille's life on Feb. 7, at 3 p.m. in the Village Church Chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Village Presbyterian Church Endowment
