Lucille L. Sherwood passed away May 13, 2015 at the age of 98. A funeral service will be held at 11AM, Monday, May 18, 2015 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas. A gathering for family and friends will begin at 10AM, also at the chapel. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Rd., Kansas City, MO 64137 in memory of Lucille’s cherished childhood dog, Butch. Lucille was born in Des Moines, Iowa and lived in Prairie Village, Kansas since 1962. She worked at J.C. Penney Regional Credit Office for 16 years, retiring in 1981. Prior to this, she worked at the Des Moines, Iowa fire department as a Clerk, and during WWII worked at Fort Des Moines for the WACS. Following her retirement, Lucille served as a Call for Action volunteer with Channel 5 for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Francis E. Sherwood; brother, Burton Crawford; and her sister Mary France. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Karen Sherwood; a good family friend, Leo Porath; and many nieces and nephews.
