Lucinda Ann Hicks Allen, 77, of Overland Park, Kan., passed away Wednesday, March 19, 2008.
Mrs. Allen was born July 12, 1930, in Independence, Mo. She grew up near Robinson, Kan., where she graduated from Robinson High School in 1948. Following high school she went to St. Luke's Nursing School in Kansas City, Mo., where she graduated with a degree in nursing in 1952. She married Roger Allen in June of 1953. She enjoyed a 30- year nursing career working at St. Luke's Hospital, Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Olathe Hospital and for Allstate Insurance. Following her career in nursing, she purchased and operated a Baskin-Robins franchise in Lenexa, Kan., for 12 years. She was actively involved with the St. Luke's Nursing Alumni Association.
Lucinda was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her sister Katherine Craven and her mother, Evelyn Wheat. She is survived by her husband, Roger Allen; son Greg and his wife Jamie; granddaughters Jennifer and Alexandra Allen; nieces Caroline Bennett and Marilyn Rigdon and nephews Steven Craven and Marvin Allen.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, Kan. Visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens Indoor Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
