Luella (Puls) Monter was born on August 20, 1921, in Gosper County, NE to John and Minnie (Golgart) Puls. Luella was one of six children, three girls and three boys. On September 18, 1921, Luella was baptized as a Child of God. As a young girl, growing up in rural Nebraska, Luella learned all about raising chickens and working in the family grocery store, but most of all, she learned what it meant to be a Child of God growing up in a home with high family values and a strong Christian faith. Late in her teenage years, Luella met the love of her life and on September 15, 1940, Don & Lu were married and over the next 22 years they were blessed with three children, Deanna Kay, Cara Sue, and Kent Donald. Don passed away on July 13, 2010, two months short of their 70th wedding anniversary.
A majority of Luella's life was spent serving others not only as a volunteer serving meals on wheels to the needy, but also as a member of numerous church and school organizations. She also served as an LPN for over 10 years in a local nursing facility. With her three children being spread over numerous years, a significant portion of Luella's life was devoted to being a mom, not only to her children, but also to the many friends of her children. Her home was always everyone else's home. Serving good old fashioned home cooked meals were her specialty and her passion.
Luella is preceded in death by her husband Donald, her two daughters, Deanna Kay and Cara Sue, two grandchildren, one great grandson and four siblings. She leaves behind her son, Kent and his wife Kathi of Overland Park, KS; one sister, Bernice Ransdell of Bloomington, Indiana; five grandchildren, Randall, Renee, Robert, Bradley and Michaela; five great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren.
For those that knew Luella well, her faith was strong and her love for Christ was never failing. She loved to cook and bake and was always there to support her children with their activities. She was witty to the end and just five days prior to her passing was still being a mom to her son. She loved sports, especially Husker football. She was a strong woman who provided strength to many. She will be missed, but now we celebrate her victory and we rejoice in her eternal healing as she is reunited with her husband and the rest of her family that has gone on before her.
