LURA L. FIELDS
Lura L Fields, 79, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Aug 13, 2010 at her home surrounded by family. Lura Lee was born Feb. 25th 1931, in Braymer, Mo.
She graduated from Springfield Missouri Senior HS in 1948 & moved to California to marry and begin a family. Returning to the Midwest, Lura spent 17 yrs in Leavenworth KS, where she began her government career with the Dept of Army at Ft. Leavenworth. There, she also owned and operated the local roller skating rink with her family. During these years, she was a Girls Scout Leader and gave skating lessons to Girl Scouts to help them earn their skating badges. She served as Chair Lady for the Elks Club when her husband was Exalted Ruler. In continuance of her career she worked two years at Forbes Air Force Base in Topeka, KS and 9 yrs with the USDA in KC. She retired from the Government in 1996 after 25 yrs.
Lura was preceded in death by two older siblings: a sister, Mildred Magers and a brother, Ralph McNew.
She is survived by: one daughter Deb Davis & husband Don of OP, KS, four grandchildren, Brandy G. Bamberger & husband Kirk of PV, KS, grandson Ben Sellmeyer of KC, MO, Lindsey Ortega and Holly Davis of LV, KS : 7 nieces & nephews and 15 great nieces/nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug 18th, from 1:00-2:00 with a funeral service to follow at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, OP KS 66210.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society or KC Hospice & Palliative Care.
