Mabel Hester

January 12, 1935 — January 25, 2020

Shawnee, Kansas

Mabel Louise Maurer Hester passed away into the arms of her savior on January 25, 2020. Born January 12, 1935, she spent virtually all of her life in the Kansas City Metropolitan area. She met the love of her life, Harold (Bud) Hester that produced a union that lasted for 63 years and 5 amazing children: Jim Hester, Russel Hester, Mark Hester, Charlene Hester and Heather Hester Pingree.

Mabel was known for her love of gardening, cooking, and family. Her love for family and friends was shown through her ministry of hospitality. She commonly took in loved ones and assisted in helping them in their journey.

She took in and cared for her mother, Edna Maurer; step-father, Harlan Burch; mother-in-law, Dorothy Hester; several grandchildren and several non-family members; and of course, her husband Bud during the closing days of his life. She was also known as a prayer warrior, regularly lifting the names of family and friends to the Lord in prayer.

Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurer; her oldest son, Harold James Hester; and her beloved husband Bud. She is survived by her children, Russel (Carol) Hester, Mark Hester, Charlene Hester, and Heather (Jimmie) Pingree; Grandchildren, Ashley Davila, Lola (Juan) Somoza, Rachel Terrel, Stacey Horner, Chrystal Forbes, Danielle Butler, Jessica Rowe, Yitzchak Tuvia Hester Yabeta Rubin, and Kevin Roberts Jr.; great-grand-children, Layla Davila, Jocelyn Aguirre, Kaelia Hester, Hannha Terrel, Dominique Danders, Elizabeth Somoza, Joshua Somoza, Tyler Horner, Leah Moore, Taylor Moore, Caden Raaf, Jesse Mellott, Ava Carpenter, and Clinton Rowe.

Mabel had a love for the scriptures and conveyed an intense desire that her family read and reflect on Psalms 37:4-37. Her desire was that her family would be shaped and molded by God’s word.
