Major General Paul M. Timmerberg (USA Ret.) passed away in Overland Park, KS on February 20, 2008 at the age of 80.

Born August 17, 1927 in Montgomery City, MO he was the son of Paul E. and Martha M. Timmerberg. He lived his formative years in Montgomery City and earned a reputation as both an athlete and a scholar. He later completed his education by earning a Bachelor?s Degree with post-graduate study at the University of Maryland.

Paul spent most of his professional life in the U.S. Military. From 1945-1947 he was in the U.S. Merchant Marine where he sailed in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. From 1948-1983 he served as an Officer in the U.S. Army. In 1948 he was accepted for Officer Candidate School and earned his commission as a Second Lieutenant in March 1949. Throughout his 35 year career he rose to the rank of Major General and retired in 1983 as the senior officer in the Army?s Military Police Corps. During Paul?s service in the Army, he received the following decorations ; Distinguished Service Medal (2), Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (4), Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (7) with one Valor Device, Army Commendation Medal( (5), and fifteen other service medals with six battle stars.
After retirement from active duty, he was inducted into both the OCS and the Military Police Corp Hall of Fame. Apart from his military career, Paul was also active as a deacon and elder of his church, an adult leader of the Boy Scouts of America, and a long time volunteer at Menorah Medical Center. He took great interest in the lives of his children and grandchildren, providing consistent support, encouragement and unconditional love.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James Edward, who was killed in action in the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of 59 years, son, Doug and his wife Michele; daughter, Debbie Blanton and her husband Wes; son, John and his wife Kelly; son, Mark and his wife Jean; sister, Nancy Scott; twelve grandchildren, Carla, Jessica, Erica, Matthew, Brooke, Ben, Brett, Amanda, Trevor, Kelsey, Brady and Jack; 4 great granddaughters and 2 aunts, Ruby Dryden See and Betty Jo Rosenberg.

Visitation will be from 2:00-3:30 P.M. on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Funeral service will follow at 3:30 P.M. Burial with full military honors will occur at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Retired Military Police Officers Digest, P.O. Box 701, Falls Church, VA 22046.
