Marcella Drake

Marcella Evelyn Drake, age 95, passed away November 9, 2012 at Sunrise of Leawood. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 14th, at Countryside Christian Church, 6101 Nall Avenue, and burial will be at Iola Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Countryside Christian Church or the Alzheimer's Association, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, 66208. Marcella was born January 17, 1917 in Claremore, OK, the sixth child and only daughter of Milo and Lavenia Chryst. She married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Roy Drake, on December 28, 1944 in Olathe, KS. They were married for nearly 60 years until his death in 2004. She was also preceded in death by her parents and five brothers, Joe, Stanley, Harvey, Dee and Dell. She was a 60 year member of Countryside Christian Church and a long time member of the St. Joseph Medical Center Auxiliary. Marcella was an avid bridge player and reader. She was a loving and generous person to her family and friends. She was kind and gracious to everyone she met. Survivors include her three daughters, Cheryl Mitchem (Allen) of Richmond, Va, Janet Drake of Leawood, KS and Julie McIver (Brian) of Overland Park, KS; seven grandchildren, Michael Mitchem, Marlo Mitchem, Megan Gaspar, Melissa Mitchem, Brice McIver, Shelley Hanna, Kerry Mees and eight great-grandchildren.
