Marcella Gail Hayward, 74, of Shawnee, KS, died peacefully on Saturday, August 9, 2014 surrounded in love by her family.
Known to family and friends as “Marty”, she was born in Norton, Virginia on June 1, 1940 to Enoch and Edith Frazier. She had one brother, Rodney Frazier of Virginia.
Marty graduated from Rye Cove High School and Steed College of Technology. After graduating college, she went to work for the U.S. Coast Guard in Washington D.C. There she met her future husband, Leon Hayward.
Leon and Marty were married on March 2, 1963 in Alexandria, Virginia. They were married 51 years. They eventually moved to Shawnee, KS where they raised three sons.
Marty had a love for children and operated an in-home daycare for 20 years. She truly loved taking care of children and treated every child like they were one of her own. Many families and children stayed in touch with her throughout the years. Marty loved knowing what they were doing and seeing how they had grown.
Marty had a great sense of humor; she made everyone smile and laugh with a joke or a funny comment. Her proudest accomplishments were being a loving wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother. She loved gardening and cooking for her family. She was one of a kind; everyone that knew her loved her!
In recent months as her health started to decline, she would always greet you with a smile and a hug. We are very sad to lose this wonderful woman and she will be greatly missed more than she could ever know. It is a comfort to know that she is in Heaven watching over all of us. We love you and miss you and will think of you every day!!
Marty is preceded in death by her parents Enoch and Edith Frazier and brother, Rodney Frazier.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Leon Hayward; three sons, Richard Hayward, James Hayward and his wife Shelley, and David Hayward and his wife Janiene; eight grandchildren who meant the world to her, Samantha Hayward, Connor Hayward, Mackenzie Hayward, David Hayward, Olivia Hayward, Nathan Hayward, Natalee Hayward and Michelle Hayward, as well as countless other family and friends
