MARDEN MERLE RUSE, 88, Overland Park, KS passed away Saturday, March 9, 2013.
He was born May 31, 1924 in Argonia, Kansas to Harry O. and Lois K. Ruse. He attended grade school in Argonia through the fifth grade. After moving to Wichita in 1935, he attended Wichita Public Schools, graduating from North High in 1942. He attended Wichita University for one year before entering the pilot training program as a cadet in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He graduated in Mission, Texas in April of 1944 as a Second Lieutenant. In August 1944 he married Margie Sellon of Sioux City, Iowa, whom he had met during his tenure as a cadet. He was discharged from the Air Corps after V-J Day and worked for TWA in Kansas City, Mo. before returning to Wichita University to finish his degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, he went to work selling business machines for Burroughs Corporation. He retired in 1985. Although he transferred several times, Merle spent the majority of his time in the Kansas City and Overland Park areas.
He is survived by his wife Margie and by three sons and their wives; Steven D. and Marsha, James K. and Debra, and Thomas E. and Carolyn, as well as eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Merle was always involved in his children's activities and took great pride in their accomplishments. Through the years he was a member of several civic organizations well as the United Methodist Church.
A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2013 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS 66210. The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. before the service.
