Margaret (Conroy) Abbott, 97, passed away peacefully, at Lakeview Village Care Center, in Lenexa, Kansas, on March 1, 2024. Margaret was born on February 26, 1927, to Peter Conroy and Sarah (Dowling) Conroy in Clonard, Ireland. She was the middle child of her family; having an older sister Elizabeth and a younger brother Peter. At a very young age, Margaret and her siblings lost their mother to tuberculosis and soon after, their father, from complications in serving as a soldier in the British Army, during World War I. At this time, the three children were separated between family members. Peter stayed in Ireland to live with his father’s brother. Elizabeth, for health reasons, was schooled and resided in a convent. Margaret was sent to London to live with her aunt. Her first job as a young woman was working for Imperial Chemical Industries.
Margaret met William Abbott in London, while he was serving as a sergeant in the United States Air Force. They were married in London on December 3, 1955, and later moved to Kansas City, Missouri. They had three children, Suzette, Brett, and Tony Abbott. Margaret served as secretary of the Daughters of the British Empire. She graduated from Dickinson Business School on October 15,1984. Margaret became a U.S. citizen in 1987. She loved taking care of her family and baking delicious desserts for birthdays and special occasions.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Abbott and her son Anthony (Kim) Abbott. She is survived by her daughter Suzette (Barry) Bowles and Brett Abbott, her three grandchildren, David (Rebekkah) Bowles, Jenna and Katelyn Abbott and her great-granddaughter Rory Faye Bowles.
