Margaret C. Harris

Margaret Harris passed to our Heavenly Father August 27th, 2023.  She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother.  She is the only child of her parents Earl and Pearl Carter.  She and her husband Richard married on April 22, 1945, and were married over 61 years until Richard’s passing on March 12, 2008.  She had 3 boys: Craig, born in 1946, Randy, born in 1950, and Rusty, born in 1955.  Randy’s daughter Megan is Margaret’s sole grandchild.  Megan’s 3 beautiful children, Harrisen, Bekah, and Carter, are Margaret’s loving great grandchildren.

Born in Blackwell, OK, she moved to Wichita, KS at 4 years old and considered it home.  She and Richard met in high school and dated over 2 years.  Richard was 2 years ahead of her in school.  He told her as soon as she graduated, he wanted to marry her.  They were married in 1945 and Richard was immediately deployed to San Antonio, TX, where they remained until the end of WWII.  They returned to Wichita and Richard soon was employed by the Coleman Company.   Richard’s job moved them to Joplin, Mo in 1961, to Elkhart, IN in 1971, to Gresham, OR outside Portland in 1975, then to Lenexa, KS in 1981.  While in the KC area, she’s lived in Lenexa, Overland Park, and Olathe.  She was a lifelong church attendee and held a deep faith in Jesus Christ.  Her place in Heaven is assured!  A dementia diagnosis in 2012 didn’t stop her.  She moved to independent living at Tallgrass Creek for 7 years, then to Santa Marta Assisted Living for 3+ years, and ultimately to the Memory Support unit a little over a year ago.  Throughout, she was independent, able to maintain her surroundings, exercised daily, and of course, played the piano or organ when called upon, which was often.

A family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
