Margaret, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, January 13th. She is survived by her sister, Mona Ragsdale, Springfield, MO, daughters Ginny of the home, Becky, Linn Valley, KS and Kathy, Center, CO with seven grand children and two great grandchildren.
She was born in the Missouri Ozarks in 1923 one of seven children. They rode to school on horseback with a biscuit in their pocket for lunch. Mother had to stay with a couple in town to complete her high school years never missing one day. An accomplishment that unfortunately went unnoticed. Being the athlete of the family, she played basketball with the boys as there was no women's team.
A few years after high school she moved to Kansas City to help with the war effort and built radios. A year later she decided to join the Navy. She did her training at the Navy ship yards in New York and Yeoman training in Cedar Falls, IA. After graduation she was posted to the Navy Department, Bureau of Ships, in Washington D.C. working across from the Washington monument. These were the best years of her life. They rode bicycles and played softball and went to dances. She stayed on a year after the war ended to process the mountain of paperwork. Her brothers were stationed in Italy and the Philippines. Her sister, Exie, built bombers.
After working a few years in Kansas City she married George Liddle in 1948, a farmer. She swore she would never marry a farmer. Oh, well. George passed in 1990 but never being able to get rid of her kids she was only alone a few years.
We will miss her sense of humor and her wisdom. We learned something new from her everyday until her last day.
