Margaret Mahoney

Margaret Mahoney (Margaret Jane Quinley), 89, of Overland Park passed away on June 19, 2022.

Maggie was born on December 3. 1932 in Tulsa, OK and moved to Kansas City in 1939. She graduated from Westport High School in 1948, attended UMKC, The University of Kansas, graduating from The University of Missouri where she was in Chi Omega Sorority, earning a double major in Speech and Psychology.

Years later, Maggie met a certain gentleman from Kansas city, Kansas and, as she said, "life really began for me." They married January 12, 1957. Maggie and Jim had two daughters, Marcie Jane and Jamie Sue. They lost Jamie due to MS complications. Marcie went on to get her B.S. and MSW with a health emphasis. Maggie has one grandchild, Josh Brauner, his wife, Jessica Brauner and one great-granddaughter, Jaina Brauner of Seattle, Washington.

Maggie lived a full life, one that was full of joy, trust, happiness and some inescapable shadows. She was grateful for the opportunity to care for her mother, Jane, in her later years and to care for Jamie throughout her illness and, of course, Jim. There were years of music and dancing and friends from wherever life took her. Maggie could play a cunning game of poker; excelling at Texas Hold 'Em.

In her musings, Maggie wondered as her new beginning in her Heavenly Home was closer if she did enough to justify her life. "No", she said to herself; does anyone ever do enough? I wasn't a doctor, a lawyer nor an Indian Chief. Just a wife, Mother, Grandmother.

Not for Maggie was the courtroom, boardroom, places of honor. Instead she chose or rather life chose her the role of supporter- helping, guiding, caring for those who are precious. In the olden days, this was an honorable profession. Maggie stated in this she flunked "Pie Crust" but excelled at hors d'oeuvres and appetizers!

She supported Jim in his professions in classrooms and schools and was an entrepreneur at Flavor Maid Donut Shop and a firecracker stand on Johnson Drive. Was given a plaque for Million Dollar Club Realtor and helped Jim in his role at the Elks, proofreading papers submitted on Amercanism for Jim's role with the Scholarship Committee.

She states "Life perhaps made a place for me" as a caring woman for my Mother, Husband, Daughters and Grandson.

Perhaps that is enough. THERE THEN MY FRIENDS IS MY LIFE. ALL 86 PLUS YEARS OF IT. THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING A PART OF IT. I LOVE YOU ALL
