Margaret B. Mitchell, age 92, Olathe, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Villa Saint Francis. A celebration of her life will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9th at D. W. Newcomer’s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue. Burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will be held 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with rosary recitation at 6:00 p.m., and 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Friday at the chapel preceding the service. Margaret was born April 5, 1916 to Albert and Jennie (Gray) Burnett in Cleveland, Oklahoma. She met her husband, Dr. Robert H. Mitchell, while she was a surgical nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital. Margaret was later Director of Nursing at University of Kansas Medical Center. She was a long-time member of Village Presbyterian Church and their Women’s Group. She enjoyed sculpting, playing cards especially poker and bridge, was an accomplished quilter, and absolutely loved the Kentucky Derby.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1993. Survivors include her son, R. James Mitchell and his wife Rose; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Bobby; and nephew, Roger Burnett.
