Margaret Rigdon

December 10, 1922 — October 16, 2017

Margaret Anne Rigdon, Overland Park, KS passed away October 16 with her family at her side.  Born in Hardin, MO in 1922, she was one of 13 children born to Bettie and William R. Meador.  She is the last to survive.  After completion of high school (with honors) in Hardin, she moved to Kansas City at the age of 17 and lived with her Aunt Hattie in the NE part of town until later getting her own apartment in midtown KC.  She took a job at the KC Southern RR where she met Robert B. Rigdon and they began a courtship which resulted in a marriage that lasted 57 years until Bob's passing in 2003. They bought their first house in KC. Soon, their first son, Robert, was born and not far behind came #2 son, Ronald. While raising her boys, she was both a Den Mother (Cub Scouts) and Room Mother as well as singing in the church choir.   In 1960, the Rigdons packed up and moved to Overland Park into a brand new home.   By then, Anne had gone back to work after taking several years off to raise the boys.  She remained in the home for 53 years until moving to Brookdale Leawood in 2013 and later, Brookdale Senior Living until her passing.  She was a wonderful mother, grandmother to 6 and great-grandmother to 11 and loved cooking and entertaining the family for holidays and Sunday dinners.  She and Bob, Sr. took a number of vacations after retirement in the 80s, both driving and flying. They took in several vacation trips to enjoy Royals road games, as well as flying to Hawaii.  With three sports fans in the house, she also became a big fan of the Royals and Chiefs and her last trip was with son, Ron, to San Diego in 2004 to watch the Royals on the road.  Anne will be dearly missed by her family and friends but will always remain in our hearts forever.  Survivors include her sons, Bob (Rhonda) and Ron; grandchildren, Renee Graf, Robin Creason (Dennis), Ryan Rigdon, Ronnie Rigdon (Brook), Kerry Rigdon (Erica) and Trevor Rigdon and 12 great-grandchildren with a great-great-grandson coming soon.  Visitation will be held Friday, October 20, 1:00 pm. Service 2:00 pm at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave. Burial to follow at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.  In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to City Union Mission, 1100 E 11th St, Kansas City, MO 64106 or The Salvation Army, www.salvationarmyusa.org.
