Marian Allred

Marian C. Allred, 95, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away peacefully January 1, 2019.

Marian was born in Onondaga County, New York on Nov 14, 1923 to Lois and Frank Dodson.  Her family moved to Pasadena, CA where she grew up.  She met her husband, Ted Allred, at a USO dance in 1945.  They were married for 36 years until Ted’s death in 1981.  Marian raised five children and grand-mothered seven grandchildren.

Marian devoted her life to being a MOM.  She was always the first to volunteer as a Brownie, Girl Scout or Cub Scout leader, room mom, cookie baker, etc.  The best thing about having five children was having all those grandchildren to love.  And the VERY BEST thing about having so many grandkids were the great-grandchildren!  They were her special joy in recent years!

Marian never met a stranger, doctor or nurse she didn’t like, or an animal she didn’t love.  She read anything she could get her hands on, especially cozy mysteries.  Her home was always filled with cats and dogs and a few times a pet raccoon, a skunk and once even a ground hog (he had to go after he ate the furniture).  While her body grew weak, her mind was strong.  Her favorite activity after reading was working the daily crossword in the KC Star.

Marian is pre-deceased by her husband Ted and her daughter Linda.  She is survived by her children; Chuck, Judy, Suzanne and Peggy, her grandchildren; Nathan, Kate, Emily, Annie, Luke, Morgan and Tucker and her great grandchildren; Max, Sam and Lucy.  We, along with our families and her friends, will miss her very much.
