Marian Adeline Powell, 89, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2015 in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1925 to Floyd and Dorothy Breitenbach and had a brother, Robert, all of whom preceded her in death. As a girl, she was a member of the Jobs’ Daughters service organization. In 1942, she married Rowland (Bud) Powell, who preceded her in death. Marian grew up in St. Louis and was of the generation who married early due to the war and set off to begin their new lives. They settled in Kansas City after the war and moved to Roeland Park, where they started their family. Marian was a 5000 hour volunteer at Research Hospital and also worked for Wolf Brothers. She was a member of the Village Presbyterian Church and volunteered at their food pantry. She and Bud were active with the Save the Connie organization and many other activities that dealt with TWA. But mostly, Marian was the heart of her family. She loved the Royals, Boston Terriers and making each holiday special for the family. She was a loving wife and mother, a great cook, and all who knew her loved her sweet and gentle nature. She always had a kind word and a smile for everyone.
Marian is survived by her three children; Dave Powell and wife Connie, Sandra Francis and husband Andrew, and Janice Kelley and husband David. She has six grandchildren; Heath Powell, Scott Powell, Bryan Lee, Nancy Dowd and husband Darin, Caroline Richardson and husband Matt, and Christopher Kelley. She also has six great-grandchildren: Zach Early, Mason Lee, Cade Lee, Beau Lee, Baylor Lee, and Kaylee Dowd.
