Marcia Gae (Forward) Lasater, 70, passed away on November 30, 2013.
Marcia was born on January 7, 1943 in Wichita, Kansas. She graduated from East High School in 1961. She and her husband George, met in their Junior year. Their first date was to the newly-opened Pizza Hut, the first opened anywhere. It was love at first sight, both the pizza and each other.
Marcia attended K.U. majoring in interior design, making straight A's and receiving several national awards for wallpaper and fabric design. She had her eyes on New York, but George had his on the UMKC Dental School. Hello money, goodbye creativity. After her 4 years of exile in lettering design, she worked at a number of ad agencies before finding her artistic calling. After studying under a local oil painter, she rapidly became one of the most accomplished still-life painters. Many of her prints and originals hang in fine homes all over the U.S.
Marcia's real love and great satisfaction was raising her 3 boys, Bret, Blake and Justin. Taking exotic trips with her family, and teaching them about nature and the beauty of color was just the best. The most neighborhood fun was on the tennis courts of Nall Hills Country Club, a special place with special people. At the same time, divorce seemed eminent during mixed double tournaments.
To Marcia there was a right way or wrong way, true or not true, no inbetween. If you asked her opinion, it came unfiltered. Raised by a Wichita truck framer and a Victorian mother, she knew hard work and the vaule of getting things done right the first time. Measure twice, cut once.
Marcia's "2nd life", as she called it, began with her 3rd son Justin. She went from the youngest mom on the block to the oldest mom on the block. She still threw all her parenting energy into den mother, homework despot, ultimate protector, and in Justin's trail to Eagle Scout, she probably earned more merit badges than he did.
Living in a house with all men, Marcia chose to do what they did, and became skilled at waterskiing, snow skiing, motorcycling, camping, gourmet cooking, tennis, gardening, archery, and turtle collecting. Staying home while the boys played, not so much.
Marcia considered the arrival of Justin's 2 girls, Liana and Shaina, as a completion of her life circle.
Marcia is preceded in death by Bret, age, 19, who died on a family float trip down the Colorado River, and by Blake, age 16, who died in a single vehicle accident.
She is survived by her husband George Lasater, Justin, two granddaughters, her cat Tips, Justin's partner Shannon, Amanda Justin's first wife whom she remain close too, sister in law's Julie Mattox and Anne Lewis, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
Some people might view Marcia's life as filled with loss, grief, and suffering. They would be WRONG. It was a wonderful life. Special thanks to Ann Foster, her nurse, and Chris White, her trainer and confidant.
Marcia waits patiently on the other side for her husband of over 53 years, George. She warns him, if he brings a tennis racket, don't expect any mixed doubles.
