Marie Seraphim (Teta to most) joined her friends and family in heaven on May 18, 2015. She was 94 and a half years old.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hanna (John), and brothers, Jules and Pierre.
She was born in Alexandria, Egypt, January 14, 1921.
At sixteen, she married and had two children, Cecile and Simone (Mona).
She and Hanna left Egypt in 1964 for Beirut, Lebanon, and immigrated first to Quebec, Canada, in 1968, and then to the U.S. in 1976.
Moving to North America meant adding another language to the five she already spoke fluently. Teta liked to joke that her English lessons came from watching “One Life to Live” and “General Hospital.”
Over the course of her beautiful life, Teta was many things to many people, Daughter, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grand Mother, Great Grand Mother, baker of the world’s best baklava, a volunteer French teacher at Cure of Ars grade school, and she was also active in numerous organizations, such as the Lost Child Network, and St. Joseph Hospital, for over 20 years. At Cure, Teta also gave Holy Communion to the elderly and the sick.
Teta was truly a light of love in the world. Around her, you couldn’t help but feel better. You knew that she loved you and would do anything to help you. So many friends and family will miss her optimistic, generous spirit. Her passing leaves a terrible hole in the hearts of those who love her so dearly.
We hope that we can live up to her example; we pray to the Virgin Mary, with whom Teta felt deeply connected since the loss of her own Mother; and we take comfort in the hope that we will see her again in God’s loving arms.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cure of Ars Catholic Church in honor of Teta.
