Marilyn Dickson

August 2, 1923 — March 27, 2017

Marilyn Lorraine Neligh Dickson, 93, of KCK passed on March 27, 2017.
Marilyn began work following December 7, 1941 at the North American Aviation "Bomber. Plant in the Fairfax District of KCK. There she met James C. (Jimmy) Dickson. They were married on 01/03/43. When her first daughter was born, she became a stay-at-home mom until her second daughter started school. During that time she became involved with the Santa Fe Trail Council of Girl Scouts. Over the years she was a troop leader and a member of the board of directors. She was also an Avon lady.
Jimmy was a naval aviator and continued flying in civilian life. They owned several airplanes during their marriage. Marilyn learned to fly to be able to land the plane in an emergency. She found a strong love of flying, joining the 99's, an international organization of licensed women pilots founded by Amelia Earhart. She flew many air races including Powder Puff Derbies (all women transcontinental air race) and Skylady Derbies. She also became a flight instructor teaching people to fly at Suburban Air Park in Bonner Springs, KS.
After her children started school, she started working for Weyerhaeuser Corp. She later moved to real estate firms where she served as office manager. After retirement at age 70, she kept herself busy reading, knitting and doing counted cross-stitch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ella Neligh, her husband, Jimmy and daughter, Kim. She leaves her daughter Kristi (Tom) McGinness, four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and her beloved Chihuahua, ChiChi.
The family will have a private graveside service at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.  The family suggest contributions to Wayside Waifs, 3901 Martha Truman Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64137 in memory of Marilyn.
The family would like to thank Brookdale Overland Park and Crossroads Hospice for the care and support their staffs provided during this difficult time.
