Mrs. Marilyn Proctor

August 24, 1935 — August 21, 2013

Marilyn Ann Proctor, 77, of Stilwell, KS, died August 21, 2013 at KC Hospice House, after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer, with her two sons by her side. A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, August 31st, at Atonement Lutheran Church in Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10AM. .

Marilyn was born Aug. 24, 1935 to Harold and Elsie Johnson, in Chicago, IL. She grew up in Park Ridge, IL and graduated from Maine South High School in 1953. Marilyn received an associate's degree from Michigan State University where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority, and more importantly, where she met her future husband, John Proctor. They were married in November 1955. Shortly after that, her husband was drafted into the Army and was stationed outside of Honolulu, where she and John lived until 1957. After a few short stops across Michigan, they settled into Saline, MI, before relocating to Stilwell in 1977.

Marilyn had a several office jobs during her life, but her top priority was her family and home. After having two boys, her prayers were finally answered with four beautiful granddaughters who she loved more than life itself. Marilyn seldom missed a grandchild's orchestra concert or soccer game. When not with family, she was always busy with her friends. She and John loved to travel and travel they did. After John's retirement, Marilyn and John toured the world. They visited every continent except Antarctica. Even after her husband's death, Marilyn continued to travel with trips to Hawaii, Hungary, and France.

To say she was a social butterfly would be an understatement. Marilyn was able to develop and maintain deep relationships with her friends all the way from elementary school to friends at the New Friends of Kansas City. She loved bridge and was a frequent winner within the three bridge groups with which she played. Active with the local alumni chapters of both Delta Gamma sorority and Michigan State University, Marilyn made friends everywhere she went.

Marilyn was active with her church, Atonement Lutheran, and Blessings Abound Thrift Store (a Metro Lutheran Ministry) and where she served as a very active and helpful volunteer up until her diagnosis of cancer.

She was preceded in death by husband, John Proctor; parents, Harold and Elsie Johnson; and brother, Russell Johnson.

Marilyn is survived by her son Tobin Proctor and wife Denise; her son Bradley Proctor; her four granddaughters, Hannah, Bailey, Micah and Brooke; and a multitude of friends.

Memorial contributions can be made to Metro Lutheran Ministries.
