Marilyn Wehr

October 31, 1940 — May 16, 2016

Marilyn Sue Wehr, 75, Olathe, KS, passed away May 16, 2016 at her home. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am on Saturday, May 21st, followed by an 11am service. Both will be held at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Marilyn’s name to the University of Kansas Cancer Center.

Marilyn was born in Maxwell, Iowa on October 31, 1940 to George and Evlyn Schulz.  She moved to the Kansas City area as a child.  She graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1958, where she met her future husband, Ron Wehr. After a four-year courtship, they married on January 23, 1960, forming a loving partnership that would last 56 wonderful years. Marilyn worked in the banking industry for most of her professional life, spending 42 years in the trust department at Johnson County Bank before becoming one of the first employees at Midwest Trust, where she worked for ten years.

Marilyn was a loving and devoted grandmother; her grandchildren were her pride and joy! Mimi, as she was affectionately called, loved attending their many sporting events, plays, concerts, and graduations. Her famous frosted sugar cookies, which she baked every Halloween, Christmas and Valentines Day, were a time consuming labor of love. She faithfully delivered these year after year to the delight of her family and co-workers!

Marilyn loved to be active, and in later years refused to let her battle with cancer slow her down. She and Ron cherished their daily walks at the local mall or on the trails near their home, logging thousands of miles over the years. An avid traveler, she and Ron graduated from yearly trips in the region to making numerous cross-country journeys, including visits to her family in Colorado, trips to the Grand Canyon with her grandchildren, and a surprise visit to San Francisco for her 70th birthday. In their later years, Marilyn and Ron traveled the world, visiting eight countries throughout Western Europe (some multiple times!). Marilyn loved to document her trips through countless photographs and meticulously kept travel journals. Among her favorite destinations were the coastal villages of Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast in Italy; the myriad sights of Rome, England, and France; and the rugged and remote landscapes of the Aran Islands in Ireland. At age 73—by now a seasoned traveler—she and Ron fulfilled a lifelong dream when they journeyed to Israel, where they visited history’s most holy sites.

Marilyn was a devout Christian, who will be remembered for her generosity, her strong faith, and her love for her family and friends. She is survived by her husband Ron; daughter Lori Egan and husband Mike; son Lon Wehr and wife Lisa; son Todd Wehr and wife Shannon; as well as her nine grandchildren: Jessica, Trevor, Drew, and Haley Egan; Corban, Dorran, and Loren Wehr; and Lyndsey and Lillian Wehr. She is also survived by her sister Linda Gibbens and husband Jay, along with many nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed!
