Marjorie Babb Kifer

Marjorie Kifer passed away on Nov. 12, 2008, surrounded by family and friends, after a long and dignified battle with CorticoBasal Ganglionic Degeneration. The funeral service will be Sunday, Nov. 16, at First Christian Church, Olathe, KS, at 3:00. Visitation will be after the service. Private inurnment at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Marjorie was born Feb. 3, 1918, at Girard, KS, to Rev. W.E. and Georgie Babb. She graduated from Girard High School at age 16 and attended Pittsburg State College for two years before beginning to teach in a one-room schoolhouse in Girard. She attended the University of Kansas in the summers until she earned her Bachelor’s degree. Marjorie taught school at Turner, Hickory Grove Elementary, and at Millbrooke, Oregon Trail, and Indian Trail Junior Highs in Olathe. She married Earle Kifer on March 20, l944, and they shared 52 happy years together until he passed away in l996. They loved to travel and enjoyed many trips throughout the United States and worldwide. Marjorie was a gifted musician. She was the church organist at First Christian Church for over 40 years. She also served the church as a Sunday School teacher, Trustee, and committee member.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sisters, Mildred Stewart, Geraldine Kinkaid, and Florein Loeffler. She is survived by three children, Bob (Linda) of Nesconset, NY, and their children, Mike and Samantha; Carole (Louis) Moll of Olathe, KS, and their children, Darren (Rachel), Jason (Kim) and Sarah; and Greg of Olathe, KS, and his step-daughter Adrienne. She is also survived by three great grandchildren; Nate, Alex, and Kaitlyn.

She was a loving and gentle person who will be deeply missed by the family and friends who were so fortunate to experience her strength, sense of humor, and goodness. The family expresses their appreciation to the dedicated care-givers at Olathe Good Samaritan Center for their loving care. The family suggests donations to the First Christian Church Abiding Memorial, Olathe Good Samaritan Center, or Olathe Hospice
