Mark McWherter

Olathe

Mark Kendall McWherter of Olathe, Kansas passed peacefully away on June 3, 2021.  He was born on September 9, 1958 to Thomas James McWherter and Norma Mae (Knewtson) McWherter in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Mark attended Coffeyville public schools and earned a Masters of Business Administration from Pittsburg State University in 1981.   Mark earned the Boy Scouts of America highest achievement, the Eagle Award in 1972.

Mark had a long career in banking until retiring in 2013.  He was a Vice President at both Overland Park Savings & Loan Association and the International Mortgage Corporation of Kansas City.

Mark was a several term President and Board Member of the Johnson County Numismatic Society.  He was also a former Regional Coordinator of the American Numismatic Association.  Mark chaired multiple coin shows in the area, including serving as the National Chairperson of the ANA Convention held in Kansas City, Missouri in 2001.  He traveled to the National Summer School and Show held in Colorado Springs, Colorado for more than 20 years consecutively, and taught there as well.  Mark was also a very proud recipient of the ANA Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mark was a member of the College Church of the Nazarene.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by a brother, Roger Dale McWherter (and spouse, Kathryn) of Leawood, Kansas and a niece, Dr. Kaela Morgan (McWherter) Urquhart (and spouse, Jarod) of Manhattan, Kansas.

Due to the continued safety concerns related to the pandemic, private family services and burial will take place in Lake Creek Union Cemetery near Edna, Kansas.
