Martha B. Erickson passed away on September 10, 2012 at her home. Martha was born in Rural Hammond, IL on April 14, 1917 to Budell and Julia Bloomer. Martha graduated from Bement High School in Illinois and then attended secretary school. She worked a Civil Servant Job in the District of Columbia in the Defense Department at the Pentagon in 1936. On August 9, 1942 she married Ernest Fredrick Erickson. Together they loved to swing dance and go bowling. Ernest was discharged from the Army in 1946. They moved to Brainerd, Minnesota and had two sons; Charles B. and Bradley E.. Martha and Ernest moved their family to Fairmont, Minnesota. Then in 1962 they moved to Kansas City, Kansas. She retired from the Federal Government in 1979. During her retirement she enjoyed reading, traveling with friends and gardening. She was also a Charter Member at Indian Heights United Methodist Church and then moved to St. Marks where she taught Sunday school, helped organize social events and helped with many charitable organizations.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Ernest F. Erickson; two grandsons, Jason Robert Erickson in 1982 and Joshua Bradley Erickson in 1987; a sister Marian Bloomer in 1975 and her son Charles B. Erickson in 2003. She was survived by one son Bradley E. and wife Connie (Coy) and three grandchildren; Katrina, Kari and Kellen Erickson of Aurora, Colorado.
Services will be 1 PM Thursday September 13, 2012 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas, 66210; with a visitation at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers please make all donations to St. Mark's United Methodist Church 6422 Santa Fe Drive Overland Park, KS 66202.
