Martha Ann Longmire, 84, of Leawood, Kan., died February 11, 2012. Martha was born June 18, 1927, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Wayne J. and Martha R. Holmes. Martha had a remarkable career in music, including performing with world renowned conductor Bruno Walter and numerous nationally known symphony orchestras. She also studied with legendary opera performers Lotte Lehmann and John Charles Thomas. As a resident of Kansas City, Martha was a lifelong Professor of Voice at the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. Retiring after 31 years, she extended her career in music as the Executive Director of the Kansas City Civic Opera. Martha is survived by her husband, Bill, of 59 years. Her four children, Bill, Jr. (Gretchen), Lou (Mike), Bob (Susan), and Jamie. She leaves behind five grandchildren, Erik, Anna, Alex, Colin, and Sam. They were the lights of her world. And, she was the light of theirs. We will miss her. The Angels are singing, and Martha is now home! The Visitation and Memorial will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. John's United Methodist Church, 6900 Ward Parkway, Kansas City.
