Martha Sullivan Coulter

Martha Ann (Sullivan) Coulter, 85, passed away October 12, 2007. She was born August 16, 1922 in Kansas City, to Jerry and Ada (Poff) Sullivan. Martha graduated from Rosedale High School in 1940 and attended Kansas University. She married her high school sweetheart William (Bill) Coulter on September 26, 1942. They were happily married for 52 years. Bill preceded her in death in 1994.

Martha had a diverse career ranging from modeling for Harzfelds in her younger years to becoming an accomplished business woman holding management positions in organizations including Katz Drug Store, Research Hospital, Adlers, The Kansas City Art Institute and The American Nurses Association. Martha was an excellent seamstress, making clothing for herself, her children and grandchildren. After retirement Martha and Bill enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the world. In addition, Martha enjoyed many years of active involvement with the Senior Barn Players. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family especially holidays and the ?cake feeds? held for birthday celebrations. Martha was a member of Hillcrest Christian Church.

Martha is survived by her four children; Sharon (Jan) Schmalz, Diana (Don) Williams, James (Laurie) Coulter and Thomas (Maureen) Coulter, 11 grandchildren; Brian, Rebecca, Rodney, Travis, Amy, Crissy, Cristi, Jim, Katie, Meghan and Libby, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, October 14 at D.W. Newcomer?s Sons Johnson County Chapel, 11200 Metcalf. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 15 at the chapel. Entombment in Johnson County Memorial Gardens Courtyard of Memories. Memorial contributions may be made to Senior Barn Players, 8600 W. 95th St. Shawnee, KS 66212.
