MARY ANN (PITTS) DUVALL, 81, Overland Park, KS passed away Saturday, January 26, 2013.
She was born on November 16, 1931 near Waverly, Kansas to Clara and Wilbur Pitts. After graduating from Waverly High School, she attended The University of Kansas, taught at a country school and played on a champion AAU women's basketball team. In 1953, she married Leland Ross Duvall in the Danforth Chapel on the KU campus. They first met in the second grade and were married for nearly 60 years. Mary raised four children (Steve, Stacia, Greg and Carol) and worked for many years at the U.S.D.A. She sang with the KC Sweet Adelines for 32 years, was a lifelong KU basketball fan and loved keeping up with the lives and activities of her children and her grandchildren. In addition to her husband and children, survivors include: daughters-in-law Elaine Duvall and Kris Duvall; son-in-law John Jantsch; 12 grandchildren: Owen Kemp, Thomas Kemp, Jenna Oehlerking, Michael Duvall, Sara Jantsch, Maggie Duvall, John Duvall, Ellie Duvall, Ellen Jantsch, Phoebe Duvall, Mary Jantsch, Rachel Duvall; and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Avenue, Overland Park, KS 66207, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. A graveside service at Waverly Cemetery will be held 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.
