Mary Jacqueline Bono-Bays, 88, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 10, 2014.

Jackie was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 12, 1925, to Peter and Josephine Bono, delivered at their home by Josephine's mother, Maddelena Brancato-La Dolce, a mid-wife. She graduated from Southwest High School, Stephens College and continued on to receive a B.A.Degree from the Kansas City Art Institute.

Jackie was married to Joshua W. Bays Jr. on May 17, 1948. They were married 48 years.

Jackie spent several summers in New York as a nanny to her nephew Peter, assisting her Aunt Rosemarie Brancato-Rothman, an opera singer. She also lived in Palmdale, California for several years with her husband Bill, an officer in the Marine Corps. She enjoyed arts and crafts and was occasionally involved in local politics in Westwood, Kansas. She was actively involved in Old Mission Methodist Church in Fairway, Kansas.

Jackie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her sister Joanne Bono Brown.

Jackie is survived by her three children, Bill Bays, Tom Bays, and Julie Bays-Hollowell, and their families; five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Emporia Presbyterian Manor Scholarship Fund.

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014 at D.W. Newcomer's Sons - Johnson County Chapel 11200 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. Visitation will be held at 12 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday, January 13, 2014. Burial will follow the services at Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
